Aftermath of a bad idea (nsfw elements)

((WARNING: This plotline has "trigger" elements (noncon). Read at your own discretion.))

The first thing he notices upon waking is the headache. It's a familiar headache he's had many a time after a night of heavy drinking, so it's not disturbing for him in the slightest.

What IS disturbing is that, upon opening his eyes a little further, he doesn't recognize the room.

His eyes shoot open, and he regrets this immediately as the headache surges in intensity for a bit. He tries to mentally recreate what exactly happened last night. He was dusting, there was a few drinks, and... and what? His headache makes it hard to concentrate.

He turns over and freezes. Li. Li is next to him in the bed.

He practically leaps out of the bed, a cavalcade of emotions shooting through him -- shock, disgust, horror. Did he do this while drunk? Oh God, what if he's found out? He could be guilty of statutory rape, could be disbarred, and Maya and Mia would CERTAINLY never look at him the same...

And then he sees his tie looped over the headstand, and the rest of the evening comes with a rush. A rush of anger.

He... he got me drunk, and then he... oh my God...

He feels ill. And betrayed. And guilty as well, though the anger of recollection diminishes this emotion to a fine point.

His first step is to find a bathroom. It takes him a bit, what with the disorientation, but once he realizes they're still in the Sanctuary (and this makes sense, considering Li lives there now), he finds it pretty quickly, and the little contents of his stomach are quickly evacuated into the toilet. Once that unpleasant experience is over with, he heads back to the room and begins dressing.

He doesn't want to wake Li. Doesn't even really want to talk to him. How could he do this?

Unfortunately, Li is not a very heavy sleeper. The sounds of someone emptying their stomach into the toilet awaken him. Still drowsy, it takes him a minute before he rolls over to see if whoever it is is okay, and his eyes fall on Phoenix.

Well, what's he doing-- oh. Oh, god no. No...

He sat bolt-upright in bed now, his expression one of sheer panic and horror. He wanted to say something to Phoenix, anything, but the words wouldn't come out. There were no words, just the horrible question of how he, of all people, could do such a thing.

Li wrapped the blanket around himself and started hyperventalating. Surely, this was all a dream, right? Just one really bad nightmare?

Phoenix pauses a bit, registering Li's alertness, and turns. The look in his eyes is one of betrayal and anger, which Phoenix is too hung over and too apathetic to bother hiding. He doesn't want to believe Li did it either, but apparently he did. Really, he should've seen this coming eons ago, and he's not sure how he didn't.

[I guess I just wanted to believe you were the same innocent kid as your alternate. Serves me right for making assumptions.]

He finishes dressing, save for the tie. He picks it up, looks at it, looks at Li quite meaningfully, and tosses it into the trash. Soiled.

Li's eyes widen as Phoenix looks at him. If there was any doubt in his mind before that this is real, it's gone now. The man's expressions, his pain, the way he looks at Li as he throws the tie in the trash - they're all so very real.

Tears suddenly find their way into Li's eyes, and he has to take off his glasses to wipe them away so that he can see clearly. So he can see every moment of this and try to believe that it's really happening. Say something, Li, anything.

"Phoenix." What do you say to a friend you've betrayed? Well, Li thought he'd offer the one thing those who had done this very same thing to him had never bothered to. "Phoenix, I'm sorry."

That does nothing, it's not enough. He can't be forgiven, and he doesn't even want forgiveness. Right now? Li just wants Phoenix not to hurt because of it.

Phoenix stares at him. He's sorry? He'd better damn well be sorry. He'd better be sorry for a long time, because stuff like this doesn't just heal over with a few words.

His jaw clenches for a bit. "Sorry, you say? Well I'm sorry too. Sorry that those words just aren't going to cut it for me right now, Li," he states tersely.

He turns to leave, and before exiting completely, can't help but get one final parting shot in:

"Maybe you and Basil were more meant for each other than I realized."

He leaves. He doesn't care if that hurt. He wants it to hurt, because he's hurting right now.

It did hurt. But, it didn't matter now. Li sat for a very long time, just contemplating that last, parting thought.

Until he found himself agreeing with it.
