PERMISSIONS
Phoenix is a baseline human. Period. Nothing mysterious about the guy. However, he DOES happen to carry a little jewel which has the potential to be a bit game breaky: the magatama. The Magatama, given to him by Maya in Justice for All, allows Phoenix to see Psyche-Locks.
Psyche-Locks are symbolic representations of the degree to which someone wishes to keep a secret. The more locks seen, the more the person desires to keep a secret to him or herself. The appearance of these can be triggered via straight-out lies, but more often than not they're triggered simply because the person refuses to divulge the information. (i.e. "I don't know anything about that" versus "I don't think I want to talk to you about that.") This indicates the magatama's weakness: while it can indicate that somebody is keeping a secret, it neither tells Phoenix what the secret is nor why they're keeping it. All it informs him is that there's something important that the informant is, for whatever reason, not telling him. In other words, it's basically a fancy lie-detector.
The Magatama can also pick up something known as Black Psyche-Locks. These first appeared in Apollo Justice, but were not explained until Dual Destinies: basically, where regular Psyche-Locks indicate information consciously held back by the individual, black ones indicate those which are kept locked away on a subconscious level. Again, this neither indicates what is being held back nor why. But forcing them open without knowing what you're doing is exceedingly dangerous, potentially resulting in serious psychological damage for the witness. At this canon point, Phoenix doesn't know about these at all. If he detects them, however, he'll sense they're too difficult, and won't touch them with a ten foot pole.
All of this, naturally, has the potential to cause trouble. In which case, these are the permissions I request:
1. If your character is keeping secrets, is it okay for Phoenix to use the magatama to detect them should he feel the need to? If so, would you rather it be a conscious effort or would you like it to go off unintentionally?
2. Would you be willing to have Phoenix attempt to break the locks should he think it necessary? Note that "attempt" does not necessarily equal "success," and if you want it to work, we should probably discuss in PM what would do the trick.
Thanks in advance!

2. Feel free to make the attempt! Nico's secrets aren't super interesting most of the time, but I'm down for attempts at breaking them and I'll totally talk about what would work if we get something that we decide would be a good thing to succeed at.
