RP POST: The Perils of Personal Ads

He doesn't want to take the responses, but he knows they're coming.

Well, he thinks he knows. Maybe he'll get lucky and nobody will respond at all. But Phoenix somehow doubts he's that lucky, to be honest. With his luck it's going to be some crazy person with a gun, or who is an assassin in their home dimension, or thinks the color green is really funny. Or who jumps straight to sex. That seems to be common in the Nexus.

He sits in his office, tapping his fingers nervously. Phew. He wishes he could find whoever posted that thing.

((Feel free to post responses to the personal ad here! Poor Phoenix.))

Phoenix listens, his eyes widening. He's all too familiar with people being framed for murder; nearly all of his biggest clients had faced these charges, and only one had been actually guilty. He feels sorry for her, and yet somehow can't help but feel that little twinge -- that twinge of desire for the truth.

"Do you have any idea who could've done it? A friend, an associate, whatever?" It's already obvious from his eyes he firmly believes her already.

At least he didn't call her guilty and a liar or saying that there was no way to get around it. That calmed her nerves a good bit at least.

"No. Honestly, I have no idea who would have done it. I mean, Jason was a mechanic of all things, who would kill someone like that?"

He rubs his face. "You'd be surprised who dies sometimes when someone else is upset." Phoenix looks at her. "Did you try to investigate at all? See if there was anything that might've explained what happened? Even if it was just a break-in or something..." He shakes his head. "You don't deserve to be blamed for something you didn't do, is all I can say. Especially not murder."

[identity profile] foxxy-diva.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
That one she had to think on, closing her eyes for the moment or so. Hmm. "I don't remember there being anything to suggest a break-in, the door wasn't open or anything when I got there. I got there before the police and yet I was the one who called them and they still blamed it on me." She pauses, mulling over something for a second. "You know, actually... there might have been someone."

He sits up. "Someone? Who do you think it could've been?" Something about a mystery like this always draws him in whether he wants it or not.

[identity profile] foxxy-diva.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Well. There was this one guy who didn't like him at work..." She trailed off for a moment, shrugging. "Though I honestly don't think he would go that far."

[identity profile] wright-idea.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Phoenix shakes his head. "Never discount anything in an investigation. That's usually the best way to go about things." He sighs. "Though how long ago was this? It might be difficult if it's been a while." The truth stings, but he figures he'd better tell her.

[identity profile] foxxy-diva.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Let's see, calculating how long she's been with the agency... add some months... "About a year and a half. Not really that long, right?"

[identity profile] wright-idea.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
He sighs. "Quite some time, but not long enough to go completely cold trail. If you're interested in pursuiting the subject, I mean..." It's not really any of his business, though if it were him he'd be doing everything he could to track down the real killer. But he's not her, now.

[identity profile] foxxy-diva.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
"I've been thinking about doing that, it's getting rather annoying to have to hide myself from the world how I have been." She shrugs a bit, fiddling with the glasses once more. "But would they even listen to me since I really didn't... go... to jail?"

[identity profile] wright-idea.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Phoenix furrows his brow. "If you could, I don't know, work in secret? Find a way to get things uncovered, and when you have enough substantinative evidence, THEN come forward? Or find someone legit willing to help. That's the best things I can think of," he says.

[identity profile] foxxy-diva.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Problem is, I have no idea where to even start. I'm pretty sure they would have cleared out his place once I disappeared."

[identity profile] wright-idea.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
He shakes his head. "There'll be clues somewhere. Probably in the police department. That would be a good start, though I'm not exactly a big advocate of breaking in. If you could get a source, though..."

He shrugs. "All you need is a few names to get you started, I find."

She can't help a tiny grin at that, "I have connections with the agency, I'm sure we can find some way in there. And if not..." She ponders for a moment, "If their security is as shoddy as I remember it wouldn't be hard to get in and out." Oops. Did she say that out loud?

"Shouldn't be hard, I hope."
