RP POST: The Perils of Personal Ads
He doesn't want to take the responses, but he knows they're coming.
Well, he thinks he knows. Maybe he'll get lucky and nobody will respond at all. But Phoenix somehow doubts he's that lucky, to be honest. With his luck it's going to be some crazy person with a gun, or who is an assassin in their home dimension, or thinks the color green is really funny. Or who jumps straight to sex. That seems to be common in the Nexus.
He sits in his office, tapping his fingers nervously. Phew. He wishes he could find whoever posted that thing.
((Feel free to post responses to the personal ad here! Poor Phoenix.))

"To be honest, when I saw you again, I knew you had changed. There was also something else; you had passion for the job. You wanted to do it, and that's why I took you in." She gives him a small smile, while resting both hands in her lap.
"...Right. Now that you've told me, there's no way that the incident can ever happen again." An eyebrow is raised to the floor lamp comment. "I'll take your word for it, Phoenix. Speaking of White, I actually made some progress on his 'case' a little while ago."
no subject
He looks up, intrigued. "Progress? Really? What sort of progress." Definitely interested now -- even if the Redd White of his world was already on death row for his actions.

Mia leans back into the couch, while looking over at him. "Well, I never told you this before, but I have a contact whom has a high position in White's company. He's been giving me information about his recent 'deals', and I'm guessing that those might come in handy later."
no subject
He blinks. "A contact? You have a contact? That would explain how you got so much information... Have you found anything incriminating enough to press ahead yet?" He looks VERY interested now. If they can push the case early...
no subject
"Yes, I do. I imagine that my other self never told you for secret purposes, but that's how I get some of my more 'darker' information." She sighs, crossing both arms over her chest.
"I got a good set of leads and possible things that I can use against him, but I'm still lacking those critical pieces of evidence. It's strange though...he's making more moves, but I can't seem to catch him just yet."
no subject
He frowns. "Sounds sort of dangerous, to be honest. Secret contacts... almost like a spy novel." Let's not go into the wire-tapping, folks. "And yet you still can't catch him doing anything incriminating? Lovely. He must be a lot smarter than he acts, or something." Absolutory.
no subject
Mia catches sight of his frown, and questions it with one of her own. "Well, Phoenix, I have to do what I can for information. But don't worry, I didn't get caught." She might have accidentally hinted that she did something dangerous recently.
"No, you would think that White would make a mistake here and there, but the guy is pretty good at covering his tracks. For some reason, he's been doing a good job at that lately."
no subject
He blinks. "Get caught? What? Mia, what do you mean?" He's a sharper cookie than he was a few years ago. You're not slipping THAT one by him. "Mia, if you're doing anything too dangerous..."
He pauses. He's not really one to speak, and the still healing scar on his nose testifies to this. "...well, if you say so. But if you're going to chew me out for doing things on my own, I get the right to do so too. I can help, you know I can," he says, finally.
Phoenix doesn't like the sound of this. "He is? More so than usual, you think? That seems kind of worrisome to me..." he says. Then again, he's been worried a lot lately.
no subject
Maybe he shouldn't though, considering that her former self died due to keeping the truth from Nick. Or that fact at least contributed to the event in question. "Phoenix, I don't want you or anyone else getting hurt because of this whole thing. That's why..."
Mia brings one hand to her head, as if trying to rub away an oncoming migraine. "...Yes, at least that's what I think. So, I'm not really trying to press the case just yet either. In case it's some sort of trap."
no subject
He looks away. "Mia, I can tell you right now that the idea of you... dying again for this will hurt me -- and my alternate -- far more than anything you could let me in on right now. Especially since you've emphasized how I shouldn't work alone so much. But I can't make you do anything, so..." He sighs. At least he knows where SOME of that "playing hero" streak comes from.
"A trap..." He ponders this. "You should check your phones and such early. I don't know if he's recording yet, but if he is you may want to cut him off at the pass. The last thing we need is for things to move faster than they should." He purses his lips. Paranoid? Maybe, but with good reason.
no subject
"...Wright, I..." Ouch, she knows what he's getting at here. Fighting alone isn't the smartest thing to do, especially with what could happen. She thinks back to when herself and Edgeworth badgered him about going off by himself. Maybe she could learn from her own lessons.
"...I will. When I get back to my office, I'll give everything a look-over." She nods, still not giving him any eye contact. "Good point. He needs to suspect nothing, and I need to go faster. I want to have him beat by that day."
no subject
He nods. "If you can get him faster than he suspects, that'd be even better. Believe me, I want to see him nabbed as much as you do right now." There's that look of determination again, even if she doesn't see it.
no subject
"...I'll get him before September, that I'm sure of." She nods, before glancing over at the door. Mia feels slightly bad, considering she just came here to have an idle, friendly conversation. Instead, they ended up getting back on the topic of her death, again. She can't outrun it, it seems.

"So...have you had any good visitors so far? Anyone date worthy, Nick?" There's that smile again.
no subject
no subject
Mia gets that grin on her face when she hears about all of his 'visitors'. Thank goodness that she doesn't have to worry about dating, since she is kinda seeing Edgeworth right now. "You're getting to be a popluar person, Nick. People must find you interesting enough to come here."
no subject
Phoenix ponders this. "I guess so. Or maybe it's just that Maya advertised me as a "lawyer of exceptional skill." But I am rather surprised that women seem to find me an attractive enough prospect. Guess I removed myself from the dating pool a little too long." He looks sheepish.
no subject
Mia laughs, while pushing back a strand of her heair. "Well, you are becoming a pretty good lawyer, so she's not lying. There's nothing wrong with stepping out of the pool for a while. I did it as well when my first love went 'away'."
no subject
He grins again, looking embarrassed. "I guess the loss of any first love can really throw you off. The fact that I lost mine in such a... BIZARRE way didn't help much." He sighs. "I'm kind of thankful for getting back in, actually. Seeing my alternate has been sort of --" He stops, looking rather pensive all of a sudden, then sighs. "Sorry."
no subject
Mia intentionally sidesteps that comment about getting back into dating. It might accidentally raise some questions about her current relationship. "...Your alternate is still running around, huh? That's not good. Especially if the Edgeworth look-alike is present as well." Cue the pensive look now. "No, no, you're alright Phoenix."
no subject
He sighs. "Well, yeah, they're running around... but..."
He rubs his face. "Seems like things are moving way faster than I'd like between the two of them. And Reiji is trying to halt that by using his relationship with Naruhodo to control him and prevent him from visiting the Sanctuary anymore." He looks troubled as he says this.
no subject
Mia sighs, before resting one hand under her chin. She's listening, even if she's doesn't want to be. "...Those two honestly confuse me. I hope I never see either of them in the Sanctuary, or otherwise I won't know what to say to them."
"Reiji was enough of a pain to deal with, but I fear an encounter with Naruhodo, to be blunt. Especially if acts like you did in the past."
no subject
He shakes his head. "It's just so weird. Like my entire college life were turned into some sort of soap opera. And now I'm cut out of it." He massages the bridge of his nose.
"I know, it's silly to be involved, but I find myself concerned for both of them. I guess because it's SORT of like seeing my past." He snorts. "Though frankly, I think Naruhodo could USE a visit from you. The guy has no backbone, and now I can't even help give him one because of Reiji. Damnit." He looks frustrated.
no subject
She can't help but laugh to that comment. "That's the story of life, in a way. It does feel like a soap opera or a badly-written book. " Seeing him get stressed makes Mia worry a little, and she gestures for him to sit down next to her.
"Well, yes, it's like we're viewing the past, but we shouldn't be trying to change their future very much. The Nexus is already doing a good job at screwing that up." She sighs. "Hn. If I was to ever see Naruhodo, I'd probably get angry at him. Just because of his general attitude, more or less."
