RP POST: The Perils of Personal Ads

He doesn't want to take the responses, but he knows they're coming.

Well, he thinks he knows. Maybe he'll get lucky and nobody will respond at all. But Phoenix somehow doubts he's that lucky, to be honest. With his luck it's going to be some crazy person with a gun, or who is an assassin in their home dimension, or thinks the color green is really funny. Or who jumps straight to sex. That seems to be common in the Nexus.

He sits in his office, tapping his fingers nervously. Phew. He wishes he could find whoever posted that thing.

((Feel free to post responses to the personal ad here! Poor Phoenix.))

"A simple little thing to deal with, I don't need to be out of commission for too long of a time." She shifts a bit, not too big on the LOLing ordeal.

"...Uh. Well. These aliens didn't like music so we rallied the people on Earth together and the music created some odd laser type of thing." Foxx grins a little, rubbing the back of her neck. "Honestly, I have no idea how it worked either. I just follow the orders I'm given."

[identity profile] wright-idea.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
He sighs. "I know the feeling. I've been hit with a few LOLs that have lost me a few work days. It's never fun."

Blank stare for a bit as he tries to process this. "That's... um. Different?" He's trying to figure out the diplomatic way of saying "WTF," really, because really. Musical laser beams sounds like something out of an 80s rock video or something.

[identity profile] foxxy-diva.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
"And you're a lawyer, right?" She can just picture how much of a problem that would be, "Which side though? I'm a little rusty on law." More than a bit.

And she's used to the blank or confused staring going on here, "Like I said, even we have no idea how it worked. Commander Kahn gave us a reasoning but for some reason we all seemed to tune him out at that time."

[identity profile] wright-idea.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
"The defense. 'Defending the bad guys,' as some people accuse me of doing, though typically a lot of my clients have been framed." He doesn't add that he's quite picky about picking clients, in actuality, though not as bad as he was a few months ago.

"Yeah it sounds, uh, kind of weird. No offense!" He scrambles a bit. "I mean, if it does good things, who am I to question it? Sounds like you're happy with it, anyway." He really has NO idea what else to say about this, so he just sort of smiles awkwardly.

[identity profile] foxxy-diva.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Heh, that's usually what most people seem to think anyway." She leans back a bit, musing to herself without thinking much of it. "Wish I got that lucky...." And her hand goes over her mouth real quick. Urk.

Time to change subject, yes! "I know it's weird. It helps people though so I don't complain or think much of it. Though it is a little odd when you're helping animals."

[identity profile] wright-idea.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
He blinks at her slip. What was that? Something about... But she changes subjects, and he decides not to pry. It's obviously something she doesn't want to discuss.

"Geez, and you help animals too... does it pay well? This dancing... motivational... thingy." Phew. Still having a hard time with this.

[identity profile] foxxy-diva.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
It's rather obvious she doesn't want to and she sure as hell is not going to go into any story there. Story bad.

"Well, depends on your ranking. We, I mean the Divas, get payed more than say... Spin's group does. And of course Starr gets payed more than Missy and I do."

[identity profile] wright-idea.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
"I suppose that makes sense. Kind of." He sighs. "Sorry, it's just sort of hard to wrap my mind around. But it sounds like you're used to these sort of responses." Shrugging, he adds, "Certainly no worse than some of the other things the Nexus brings into play."

[identity profile] foxxy-diva.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh I am, the only people who really understand what we do is those of us involved with it. And half of us don't even understand what is going on." But they made do and that's all that really mattered. "...Do you mind if I ask you something a bit more... well, off topic?" She just has to know.

[identity profile] wright-idea.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
He nods, then blinks. "Um, sure, go ahead." He has an odd feeling about what's coming next.

[identity profile] foxxy-diva.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Just... in a hypothetical sense. Say that someone was in jail for something they didn't do and then disappeared, what would happen if they came back from the disappearance? Entirely hypothetical." Look at her squirming there.

[identity profile] wright-idea.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Phoenix frowns. "Well, I'm sure there'd be a lot of hullaballoo, and probably a definite effort to try and bring them back to jail... so I'd theorize, anyway. Unfortunately, unless there was an appeal filed, the law doesn't tend to care about if you were innocent or not, especially if you escaped." There's a bit of a bitter tone, alas. Apparently he works with the system, but doesn't necessarily like it all the time. "Frankly, escaping probably makes it worse." He sighs.

[identity profile] foxxy-diva.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
And that was what she was afraid of and she slumps a bit more into the couch. "Greeeat. So you're basically screwed either way?" Maybe she'll just stay disappeared and not bother with it. "I'm not just not sitting too well with some things."

[identity profile] wright-idea.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Phoenix frowns. Strange job or otherwise, he can't stand seeing a woman looking depressed. "Do you want to... talk about it?" he asks. He doubts it, but he figures he can at least put the offer forward.

[identity profile] foxxy-diva.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, you aren't from my world so I guess I don't have any real fear of anything happening..." Hm. And it probably would make her feel a bit better anyway. "Well, as you could probably have guessed, Foxx is nowhere ner my real name. Things... well, some things happened back in my world that probably aren't the best ever. Accused of different crimes, nothing big or anything..."

She squirms just a little bit, the next part a tad bit uncomfortable. "Something with my work happened, got some jail time there. Served it, nothing wrong with that... Even though I didn't do it."

And the pause before the big deal, "I had been living with my boyfriend at the time, he was... murdered one day. I was pretty much their only suspect and even though I denied it and told them it wasn't me and everything they called me guilty anyway. That's where the getting out of jail and disappearing part comes from, you know? I'm just getting a little sick of running away from everything, but I don't want to go back to jail or anything because of something I'm innocent of." Long winded, but it was necessary and did make her feel a whole lot better.

[identity profile] wright-idea.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Phoenix listens, his eyes widening. He's all too familiar with people being framed for murder; nearly all of his biggest clients had faced these charges, and only one had been actually guilty. He feels sorry for her, and yet somehow can't help but feel that little twinge -- that twinge of desire for the truth.

"Do you have any idea who could've done it? A friend, an associate, whatever?" It's already obvious from his eyes he firmly believes her already.

[identity profile] foxxy-diva.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
At least he didn't call her guilty and a liar or saying that there was no way to get around it. That calmed her nerves a good bit at least.

"No. Honestly, I have no idea who would have done it. I mean, Jason was a mechanic of all things, who would kill someone like that?"

[identity profile] wright-idea.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
He rubs his face. "You'd be surprised who dies sometimes when someone else is upset." Phoenix looks at her. "Did you try to investigate at all? See if there was anything that might've explained what happened? Even if it was just a break-in or something..." He shakes his head. "You don't deserve to be blamed for something you didn't do, is all I can say. Especially not murder."

[identity profile] foxxy-diva.livejournal.com 2007-05-10 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
That one she had to think on, closing her eyes for the moment or so. Hmm. "I don't remember there being anything to suggest a break-in, the door wasn't open or anything when I got there. I got there before the police and yet I was the one who called them and they still blamed it on me." She pauses, mulling over something for a second. "You know, actually... there might have been someone."

[identity profile] wright-idea.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
He sits up. "Someone? Who do you think it could've been?" Something about a mystery like this always draws him in whether he wants it or not.

[identity profile] foxxy-diva.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Well. There was this one guy who didn't like him at work..." She trailed off for a moment, shrugging. "Though I honestly don't think he would go that far."

[identity profile] wright-idea.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Phoenix shakes his head. "Never discount anything in an investigation. That's usually the best way to go about things." He sighs. "Though how long ago was this? It might be difficult if it's been a while." The truth stings, but he figures he'd better tell her.

[identity profile] foxxy-diva.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Let's see, calculating how long she's been with the agency... add some months... "About a year and a half. Not really that long, right?"

[identity profile] wright-idea.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
He sighs. "Quite some time, but not long enough to go completely cold trail. If you're interested in pursuiting the subject, I mean..." It's not really any of his business, though if it were him he'd be doing everything he could to track down the real killer. But he's not her, now.

[identity profile] foxxy-diva.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
"I've been thinking about doing that, it's getting rather annoying to have to hide myself from the world how I have been." She shrugs a bit, fiddling with the glasses once more. "But would they even listen to me since I really didn't... go... to jail?"
