RP POST: The Perils of Personal Ads
He doesn't want to take the responses, but he knows they're coming.
Well, he thinks he knows. Maybe he'll get lucky and nobody will respond at all. But Phoenix somehow doubts he's that lucky, to be honest. With his luck it's going to be some crazy person with a gun, or who is an assassin in their home dimension, or thinks the color green is really funny. Or who jumps straight to sex. That seems to be common in the Nexus.
He sits in his office, tapping his fingers nervously. Phew. He wishes he could find whoever posted that thing.
((Feel free to post responses to the personal ad here! Poor Phoenix.))

Even though she knows it's not a smart idea to come to a world that has her labeled as a deceased person, Mia couldn't resist. After all, she did catch sight of Nick's personal ad in the Nexus, and curiosity won over sense today. That and Mia really wanted to come
harass and tormentcheck up on Phoenix, just to make sure things were going okay.Standing outside of his office, she knocks on the door a few times. Mind you, Mia doesn't feel comfortable just inviting herself in, even if this was her former work place. Here's to hoping Nick won't be mad at her sudden visit.

He opens the door, and... Mia?
His brain shorts again. Because aw God she's back from the dead and wanting a date no wait this is probably an alternate and she wants a date wait that can't be right she's interested in EDGEWORTH or something he doesn't know it's all kind of weird lately agh must control train... of... thought. There we go.
"Oh, h...hey Mia. Wasn't expecting to see you here..." he says finally, and somewhat lamely.
no subject
"Hey Nick! I'm here for the personal ad!" Oh god, she has to try her hardest to not laugh right this second. Mia's expecting to get yelled at for this joke, without a doubt. "Think you can give poor little me a chance? I'll be a good date, I promise."
If Phoenix isn't going completely crazy and/or brain-dead at this point, he might be able to see that Mia is just playing around with him. It's obvious by that coy smirk that's crossing over her face. And the sheer fact that she's biting her lip, in some attempt, to prevent herself from laughing.

Mia's laughing a little now, still smiling at Nick like the whole thing was funny. Well, at least he hasn't slammed the door shut in her face yet. Which is a very god sign indeed.
"So Nick, do I get to stand out here in the hallway all day? Or are you going to invite me in for a little while? I even brought you a gift." She glances down at a set of bags near her feet, before looking back up at him.

He snaps out of it and scurries to take the parcel helping bring it inside. He leads the way to the inner office before setting it down again, and turning back around. "So, uh, um... I have to say I'm a little surprised you're here," he says. He doesn't add that this is giving him an incredible case of deja vu.
no subject
Mia ends up following behind him, setting the bag next to the other one. "Yes, I figured you would be. And before you even say it, I know I shouldn't be here. I figured I'd just stop by for a hour or so and then sneak back to the Nexus."
no subject
He sighs. "Well, it's not at all a bad thing. Sort of... nostalgic." He looks wistful for a bit, looking into a corner. "It hasn't been like this for a long time for me." He ponders suggesting that she getting a floor lamp the day before THAT day... but that could be sort of tasteless.
no subject
She seems a bit surprised by Nick's words, and she glances at him curiously now. "...Wow, Phoenix, I wasn't expecting you to say that. I thought that you would be upset that I came here, considering..." She sighs. "Do you want to talk for a bit?"
no subject
He sighs a bit as well, looking around. "It's just... reminding me of the good days. I'd be desperately trying to study, and you'd be making sure I stuck to it instead of trying to sneak a comic in instead. Takes me back."
He looks around, a little sadly. "...it... happened in here, you know." He swallows. It's a hard thing to be recalling.
no subject
Mia sighs, before glancing around the office as well. Even though a few small things have changed, it still feels like her own work place. "...I understand. I remember the first time you came back to my offices after finishing law school. There's also a bunch of other, small memories that come to mind; but that's the one I recalled first."
Hearing that makes Mia shudder a bit. "...Wright, I'm sorry. I...I'm not sure what to say that can make you feel better. I feel guilty though, and I don't know why."
no subject
He nods. "I remember. Desperately hoping you'd take me on and teach me to be as good a lawyer as you. I must've seemed pretty pathetic," he says, chuckling a little.
When she says that, he shakes his head. "Don't be. None of it was your fault. It's in the past, anyway, and it shouldn't happen again. Not now that you've been forewarned." He sighs, then looks into a corner. As long as the subject's there... "Might want to buy a floor lamp the day before I told you it happens, though. Just to be on the safe side." He has his reasons, oh yes.
no subject
"To be honest, when I saw you again, I knew you had changed. There was also something else; you had passion for the job. You wanted to do it, and that's why I took you in." She gives him a small smile, while resting both hands in her lap.
"...Right. Now that you've told me, there's no way that the incident can ever happen again." An eyebrow is raised to the floor lamp comment. "I'll take your word for it, Phoenix. Speaking of White, I actually made some progress on his 'case' a little while ago."
no subject
He looks up, intrigued. "Progress? Really? What sort of progress." Definitely interested now -- even if the Redd White of his world was already on death row for his actions.
no subject
Mia leans back into the couch, while looking over at him. "Well, I never told you this before, but I have a contact whom has a high position in White's company. He's been giving me information about his recent 'deals', and I'm guessing that those might come in handy later."
no subject
He blinks. "A contact? You have a contact? That would explain how you got so much information... Have you found anything incriminating enough to press ahead yet?" He looks VERY interested now. If they can push the case early...
no subject
"Yes, I do. I imagine that my other self never told you for secret purposes, but that's how I get some of my more 'darker' information." She sighs, crossing both arms over her chest.
"I got a good set of leads and possible things that I can use against him, but I'm still lacking those critical pieces of evidence. It's strange though...he's making more moves, but I can't seem to catch him just yet."
no subject
He frowns. "Sounds sort of dangerous, to be honest. Secret contacts... almost like a spy novel." Let's not go into the wire-tapping, folks. "And yet you still can't catch him doing anything incriminating? Lovely. He must be a lot smarter than he acts, or something." Absolutory.
no subject
Mia catches sight of his frown, and questions it with one of her own. "Well, Phoenix, I have to do what I can for information. But don't worry, I didn't get caught." She might have accidentally hinted that she did something dangerous recently.
"No, you would think that White would make a mistake here and there, but the guy is pretty good at covering his tracks. For some reason, he's been doing a good job at that lately."
no subject
He blinks. "Get caught? What? Mia, what do you mean?" He's a sharper cookie than he was a few years ago. You're not slipping THAT one by him. "Mia, if you're doing anything too dangerous..."
He pauses. He's not really one to speak, and the still healing scar on his nose testifies to this. "...well, if you say so. But if you're going to chew me out for doing things on my own, I get the right to do so too. I can help, you know I can," he says, finally.
Phoenix doesn't like the sound of this. "He is? More so than usual, you think? That seems kind of worrisome to me..." he says. Then again, he's been worried a lot lately.
no subject
Maybe he shouldn't though, considering that her former self died due to keeping the truth from Nick. Or that fact at least contributed to the event in question. "Phoenix, I don't want you or anyone else getting hurt because of this whole thing. That's why..."
Mia brings one hand to her head, as if trying to rub away an oncoming migraine. "...Yes, at least that's what I think. So, I'm not really trying to press the case just yet either. In case it's some sort of trap."
no subject
He looks away. "Mia, I can tell you right now that the idea of you... dying again for this will hurt me -- and my alternate -- far more than anything you could let me in on right now. Especially since you've emphasized how I shouldn't work alone so much. But I can't make you do anything, so..." He sighs. At least he knows where SOME of that "playing hero" streak comes from.
"A trap..." He ponders this. "You should check your phones and such early. I don't know if he's recording yet, but if he is you may want to cut him off at the pass. The last thing we need is for things to move faster than they should." He purses his lips. Paranoid? Maybe, but with good reason.
no subject
"...Wright, I..." Ouch, she knows what he's getting at here. Fighting alone isn't the smartest thing to do, especially with what could happen. She thinks back to when herself and Edgeworth badgered him about going off by himself. Maybe she could learn from her own lessons.
"...I will. When I get back to my office, I'll give everything a look-over." She nods, still not giving him any eye contact. "Good point. He needs to suspect nothing, and I need to go faster. I want to have him beat by that day."
